About

About

MY BACKGROUND

My name is Abigail Bernard, I am Occupational Therapy Doctorate student with a background in biology and an interest in pediatric settings. However, I am eager to gain experience with all of the populations that a licensed OT might encounter. I am passionate about encouraging others to find meaning in their lives by engaging in purposeful occupations. In my program, I am developing skills in practice, advocacy, research, and autonomous decision making, each of which will be beneficial in my future as an OT. I hope to gain more knowledge and experience as I complete my program that will allow me to grow in the field of occupational therapy and use my skills to help others. Browse my site to see all that I have to offer and feel free to contact me using the information listed at the bottom of the page.

The figure above showcases the skills and traits that I have developed through my education and work experiences. I would like to highlight a few skills that I consider particularly important:

  • communication: this skill is crucial to interacting with colleagues, clients, and others in society and necessary to pass information and problem-solve effectively.

  • problem-solving: in occupational therapy, every client is different and my problem-solving ability will allow me to create a treatment plan that is unique and specific to each client and find solutions that best fit the individual that I am working with

  • empathy: this skill is important in most professions but particularly in healthcare to ensure that the client feels both heard and understood and allow practitioners to tailor care to the individual
